Installing Office 365 on your personal device
Overview
Every Vanguard has been licensed to install Microsoft Office 365 on up to five (5) personal devices. This allows you to use the desktop versions of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint on your personal device(s).
Prerequisites/Requirements
Any personal device and an active Vanguard ID issued by Vance-Granville Community College. Ensure you have already signed in and completed the initial setup of your Vanguard ID.
Step-by-Step Instructions
- Access the Microsoft 365 website. You may go to https://www.microsoft365.com and log in using your Vanguard ID. You may also access the Microsoft 365 portal by clicking the waffle icon at the top of any Microsoft online application and selecting the Microsoft 365 option.
- On the top-right of the page, you will see an Install and More drop-down menu. Select the Install Microsoft 365 apps option.
- Microsoft Office 365 will begin downloading to your computer. Once it has finished, you may move to the next section.
Windows Users
- Depending on your browser, select Run (in Edge or Internet Explorer), Setup (in Chrome), or Save File (in Firefox).
- If prompted by User Account Control, which asks, "Do you want to allow this app to make changes to your device?", choose Yes.
- Your installation should begin. Your install will complete when you see the phrase, "You're all set! Office is installed now". Select Close.
- You will be asked for your Vanguard ID when launching a Microsoft Office 365 application for the first time. This will license the product on your device.
Mac Users
- Once the download is complete, open Finder and navigate to your Downloads folder. Double-click the Microsoft Office installer.pkg file (the filename may vary; it is the file you downloaded in the previous section).
- On the first installation screen, select Continue to begin the installation process.
- Review the software license agreement, and then click Continue.
- Select Agree to agree to the terms of the software license agreement.
- Choose how you want to install Office and click Continue.
- Review the disk space requirements or change your install location, and then click Install.
- Enter your Mac login password if prompted, and then click Install Software. (This is your password to log in to your Mac.)
- The software will begin to install. Click Close when the installation is finished.
- You will be asked for your Vanguard ID when launching a Microsoft Office 365 application for the first time. This will license the product on your device.
