How do I meet the multi-factor requirement if I do not have a cellphone?
Overview
VGCC utilizes multi-factor authentication methods for all user accounts to strengthen security by requiring users to provide multiple forms of verification (e.g., a password and a one-time code sent to a mobile device.) This makes it much harder for unauthorized users to access your accounts, even if they manage to steal your password. It provides an additional layer of security, reducing the risk of unauthorized account access.
Some of our users may not have access to a mobile device to use for multi-factor authentication for various reasons.
Prerequisites/Requirements
- Users with mobile device access (cellphone, tablet, etc.) should use their device over the alternative listed below.
- User will have to schedule 15-30 minutes to visit IT on the VGCC Henderson Campus (Main Campus) to set up a token card.
- At this time, a token card is free for students and employees. A replacement fee may be charged if a token card is lost or destroyed.
Step-by-Step Instructions
Because multi-factor authentication is a requirement for all users, disabling multi-factor authentication is not a possibility. Users without a mobile device can request a physical token card from IT. This card will provide the user with a randomized one-time use code connected explicitly to their user account.
- If you are an Early College student, you should have your Early College Liaison request a token card on your behalf by clicking here to complete the request form. ALL OTHER USERS: Contact our IT Support Line at (252) 738-3258. You may leave your contact information with the 24/7 support agent if it is outside our regular business hours. IT will contact you to verify your information and prepare your token card.
- You must meet with IT on the Henderson Campus (Main Campus) to receive the token card for your account. Early College users will receive their token card from their Early College Liaison.
